A new year is very much in full swing and the show season starts soon.

This being the first formal year of an organized youth program within the IdRHA, I have made modest goals for us. The object is to include all youth, not just those who show.

I have slated the youth of the IdRHA to meet 4 times this year, 1 meeting, and 3 shows. This is based on our current show schedule. The schedule is on the attached and our club website idahoreining.com.

My desire is for the kids to work at our shows. This will build their knowledge of the sport of reining, as well as, build teamwork and camaraderie. Attached is an idea of tasks they can perform. These are in no way the only ones, but the most common. If you have other ideas, please by all means, let me know.

My goal is to have the youth participate at the three local shows and earn “stuff”. I think they will be more motivated to work if there is a reward. I am not asking for a ton of time as I know the youth show and need to get their horses ready, etc. I will ask that the youth seek me out when time allows. There will always be something for them to do. They will be responsible for reporting “worked” time to me so I can track it.

I have also slated one fundraiser for the youth. I want to do a used tack sale at the July show. I am anticipating a one-day event. The youth will be asked to collect used horse-related items and bring them to sell. Everyone will be encouraged to work the tack sale. This will promote teamwork and yes, the dreaded math skills. I will have more specifics in April or May, which I will relay to you.

With the money the kids raise, I am going to request permission to take them shopping in November and purchase 2 complete turkey dinners to donate to the food bank. This will make them use their organizational, teamwork, and math skills. The funds will also be used to pay for the year-end awards for the youth.

I look forward to any input from parents. This is our first year and the things we learn this year will make the program better in the future.

Please contact me any time with questions or concerns. Also, if any youth are interested in the NRHyA, let me know, I will share my information with you.

Thanks for allowing your youth to participate.
